Award-winning independent curator Chris Erlich will spend the day sharing strategies for developing compelling exhibits for small museums. In the morning, Chris will dive into tips for writing content and telling stories that are relevant and engaging. In the afternoon, she will discuss her “Ten Top Tips” for designing great exhibits, even on a shoestring budget. The resulting exhibits are easy for visitors to navigate and understand, pleasing to the eye, and offer the most “bang for your buck.” Using examples and demonstrations, she’ll show how planning and practice yield results. Featured methods and techniques covered include planning steps, design basics, making labels, producing simple audio and video, and creating playful manipulatives.
This workshop is cohosted by the Washington State Historical Society, the Plateau Museum Alliance, and the Heritage League of Pierce County. This workshop is FREE for staff and volunteers of Washington state heritage organizations. Open to anyone interested in working with historical exhibits.
